Thanks for the replies, turns out its connectors put halfway down the chassis just where all the mud and **** can hit them! Well done Landrover for clever design!!!!

Seems I'm at the mercy of the dealer, if 12000 miles is what they say then who am I to argue. At 8 months old she will have done a good few more miles by the time the warranty expires in June 2010!
Incidentally, my 2003 TD5 also had 12000 mile service intervals as recommended by Taunton Land...

I've had one of the new Defenders since last June and it has now done 11k. Despite a considerable amount of off-road and motorway work have'nt had any problems apart from a temperamental immobiliser.
Engine uses a little more oil in comparison to my old 2003 TD5 but about 250ml is'nt out of...

Now had one of these new ones since 3rd June and have done 6,500 miles.
Have had a slight problem with the immobiliser which seems to have a mind of its own now and again by not letting the engine start.
Locking and unlocking again resolves it.
The only other point that ticks me off is the speed...

Picking up one of the new Defenders on monday having sold my TD5 to a mate.
Anyone got any nasty experiences with the new model yet?
Will keep you informed of my progress with the new one.
