    Hard tow

after spending the morning trying to get my old tractor started I'd managed to roll it part way down a lane and had to tow it back to where it started from. Hooked the disco up to it and tied the steering straight and set off and stalled. Down to low box and set off again and started dragging...

Is this one for the RSPCA?

Looks like his dog had a thrashing when he got back and found that :D

I think so, I've had problems with fuel contamination in the past and I think that some kind person had put something in the fuel, the fuel cap isn't great so I've put a padlock on it. When I cleaned the fuel out I burned some in a pan and there was a residue, so I assume there is something that...

There's no point really I'm packing in with them as it gets out every few months. If he walked it now and then it'd help, plus his daughter is one of my daughter pet projects. She tries to feed her up and look after her :confused2:

Yeah it's all been drained and cleaned to the point of me wiping it out with an old towel. The rear floor lifts out so I've got easy access to the tank. I'm still waiting for it to go wrong again but I'm pretty confident that's the cause. To add insult to injury next doors dog got out yesterday...

Just for any who are interested, I burned some of the diesel I drained in a stainless steel bowl and there was a 'residue' left at the bottom. The tanks got a padlock on it now and the last pump put on is still working and there's no problems. Thanks for all the useful input cheers chaps.

That's what I thought so maybe the valve blocks or sticks and then over a while it 'unsticks' and the pump works again. I've done all the usual stuff which is why I've asked cleverer folk than me. :)

That's the plan next time I can't think of anything else unless it's a bad batch of pumps? At the moment it's working and I'm too much of a coward to touch it till it breaks again :) It's the way they fail then after a few days work again. The only other thing I can think of is contaminated fuel...

No really they're on the right way round, there's even a little arrow to tell you which is the inlet :) The one I thought was failing seems to be hanging in there. I'll just have to keep changing things till it gets right, I managed to tow a tonne of corn 10 miles yesterday and she didn't miss a...

No it was the first thing I checked, can dragging air stop or temporarily seize the pump ?

It was in my hand and I was using the arm and not the primer lever, a pipe in some diesel and it wouldn't pump it, the new one was squirting it out in two moves of the arm. A week or so later I tested the dud one again and it worked??? I'm going bald from scratching me head :)
