Hi LandyZone,
I’ve followed your site with interest and admiration for a while - a whole load of knowledgeable people who are willing to help others.
I spend a lot of time in Greece (near Kalamata in the Peloponnese), and had an ex military LHD Defender 90 soft top out here for 10 years. It had a 200Tdi engine and was driven here and back from the UK via Italy each year. I could have registered it in Greece and paid Euros 1000+ in road tax but we enjoyed the journey, and ear defenders are cheap! It's great fun driving the offroad tracks here (mountains up to 2400 meters) as there are no restrictions and everywhere is very quiet and green, especially in the winter.
Getting older and softer so sold much loved Defender and now have a Freelander 2 diesel Td4. Great vehicle but the electronics are a bit daunting when you get under the bonnet.
I’m an aspiring two spanner Haynes mechanic and have some electrical knowledge, but I’m currently stumped with my Freelander 2 diesel which has decided it doesn’t need its cooling fans any more. Since it’s 36 degrees here during the day, aircon is useful.
