My old 110 County needs a good home

I am tempted - but the wife would kill me! However....What engine is it? What welding does it need? Any photo's?

    Wheel spacers?

Don't put spacers on it. It knackers the bearings and upsets the handling. Offset wheels are a much better bet.

    Getting a log book

I dragged mine out of a field. No log book and coudn't read the chassis number either. There is a form the post office can give you, which I filled in with a letter explaining how I purchased the car and the fact that after 41 years the chassis number was unreadable, and six weeks later the log...

    Hello from newbie!

Yes, but there is something about the Series that does it for me. The 'Daktari', 'Africa here I come' feel, plus the fact that you do not have to apologise to other road users for tootling along at 40mph 'cos you could, if the impulse took you, just turn right into the countryside and head off...

    Series III Gearbix issue

Sounds like a worn gearbox to me. If the car is OK, a gearbox will cost about £500 odd to get someone else to put in, so bid that much less. Then account for the clutch & bits too.

Does anyone have any experience of using a tirfor hand-winch?

They are bulky and fairly heavy, but much cheaper and more convenient than a car mounted winch. Worth getting.

    Hi from rainy Brittany

Cor, french France and Landies is a nice combination. I am beginning to resent you already!! How do Series Landies go down in France? I know the Spanish like the Series Landies, but the French just use the 2CV to go overland surely!

    Usefull Advice Needed

I have seen it done using a SWB roof & rear door complete, but it only gave two side doors. Cutting a section from the LWB roof back to the doors and bolting the end back on looks OK too and gives you the four side doors.

Defender or Range Rover for towing horsebox?

I'd echo that. The BMW 2.5TD is underpowered in the R38 Range Rover, but the 300 2.5TD in the Disco is a belter, but slow as an auto. In terms of Isuzu, avoid the 3.0 like the plague as the engines blow up at any mileage due to problems with injector seals, but the early 2.8TD or newer 3.1TD...

Lonely Series 2a wants to chat for friendship, maybe more.

Sounds good to me! What sort of niggles? I am in the process of getting mine usable for as little money as possible. I have just (tonight that is) converted my dynamo to alternator (90w Granada one for £20 from scrappy) and moved the position up high to in front of the carb - stops it getting...

    Green laning legalities.

You need to join a club, or at least GLASS, the Green Lane ASSociation, as it can be a bit of a minefield with RUPPS, BOATS, TRO orders and councils changing things by the minute! A club with a green lane officer in it usually has thier fingers on the pulse of what they can or cannot do.

    Series III petrol or deisel?

Without overdrive , yes. However, with my old Series I had an overdrive, and I used to get about 23 mpg, and it cruised at 65mph no problems (indicated 55mpg but I was running 750x16 tyres which meant it was about 10% out or thereabouts). Until I wanted to stop quickly! (but that was a...

HELP: Transfer box stuck in neutral....

You might find that it has never been in low ratio before and the rods have a habit of sticking or ceasing up. Discos suffer from this, particularly the 'Kings Road' ones that never go off road. Get to the High/Low linkages (easiest by removing the gearbox cover from inside the car) and drown...
