Ok, thanks. I'll check that out. It's not the original engine.

I'm trying to find out what year my 200 TDI was made. Serial # 12L80014A.

F
Ok, thanks. I'll give that a try.

Ok. Yep it has a 200TDI. I will hopefully be able to take a look at it this weekend. I'm assuming to remove the gear box top I'd have to pull it out?

So I was driving along, went from 4th to 5th, let out on the clutch and nothing happened. No noise or odd feeling. Just felt empty. I don't know much about gearboxes, reckon it's time to learn. Not sure but I believe it might have an LT77.

Thanks a lot. That really helps

If the 12mm bolts are torqued to 40nm then what are the 10mm bolts torqued to. How does this convert to ft lbs? Also, the head gasket that I got didn't come with a torque pattern example. I don't have a Haynes yet. How can I find which bolts are which? I've searched on the internet but google...

Not sure. This is my first time working on one of these. Try to learn as I go.

From everything else I've read you torque them to 33ftlbs then 90 degrees and another 90 degrees. I do have a Haynes manual on the way but I'll be doing the head before it shows up.

Alright, I'll make sure to ck it. Don't want to be blowing out new seals from a clogged breather tube

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Still waiting on the parts to come in. I have this head gasket to do and a rear axle hub reseal as well.

F
Got it. Thank you much for your advice. I'll be doing the swap as soon as the gasket arrives. Until then I'm sure I will have more questions.
-
F
Alright, will do. Also, what is the lhs? I really need to order a good maintenance manual for this thing. I have a 1989 Defender with a 200 TDI. I don't know much about them yet but am trying to learn.

Ok. I am guessing that is just to drain the antifreeze from the block? Do I need to do anything special to the injectors?

When I do this head gasket swap is there anything special I need to do other than pull off the head and slap a new gasket on. I have only done work like this on gas engines. Never on a diesel. And when I'm done I want to degrease the engine. Is everything in there safe for a degreaser and water...
