Defender heaters can be pretty poor when neglected. I reverse-flushed mine with a garden hose and an impressive amount of orange crud came out! With cleaning out the air side, and some additional sealing up of gaps etc, this massively improved...
I've been in a Discovery with Insa Turbo Special Tracks fitted and the noise alone was unbearable at anything above about 50mph. Also, traction on road was pretty terrible. The Dakar is a better off-road biased tyre, but still quite noisy. They...
If they are DRLs, they need to be wired to an ignition-switched supply and dim or switch off when you turn on the side light. With the integrated indicator function, the DRL should switch off when indicating. As they are integrated into the...
You should be able to take an auxiliary ignition feed direct from the back of the ignition switch.
Although I would not bother as personally dislike halo lights and think they are little tacky.
The rim diameter 16 inches is the important measurement to make sure you get a tyre that is also for a 16 inch rim. the next important measurement is then the rim width. If they are stander land rover rims the rim width will be 6 inches you will...
It's true, although how many have gone up in smoke due to electrical fires! If I was rebuilding one, I'd scrap the lot and update the wiring to something more advanced.
Looking at the diagram, you realise how electrically dubious the stock wiring on a Series is! Half the circuits are protected by only three fuses, and the other half aren't protected at all. And no sign of any relays to take the load off the...
I agree that most retrofit installations are actually dangerous as often the only way in or out is to fold up one seat. So there's no way to quickly exit the vehicle in an emergency! The best thing to do with forward-facing aftermarket seats is...
Eh???
Front facing rear seats in a 90 are horrid. No way to get in or out. Late model factory models have different seat boxes/wheel arches. But still horrid. Side facing seats are perfectly fine and legal and if you don’t fit seatbelts they...
As said it’s a good idea to check road wheel size and also count the teeth on your difs. Most wheels are changed for aesthetics rather than performance and sometimes the gearing of the differentials changed in an attempt to improve top speed...
In poor condition, Defender seats are rubbish. The foam falls to bits over the decades, making them lumpy and uncomfortable. The solution is to simply refurbish them, rather than mess around trying to fit other seats in there. New internal foams...
Very doubtful, I want access to the battery and/or tank without having to get spanners out. Seats also need to be robust and suitable for a 4x4 and laning. I also don't want seat risers at all! Good condition standard seats are the perfect seat...
You could also try cutting a slot in the thread along the length of a spare bolt and run that through, helps to scrape out the crud in the female thread.
Can you give more context? Are you talking fast or slow driving? And are you meaning the factory lights on a vehicle or after market lights aux lights?
Is the need to use these lights on the public roads? And what exactly are you trying to see...
Fog lamps give a low, wide spread of light which is more likely what you want. In combination with the standard low beams it should give plenty of light where you need it. You probably have the original wiring for it still installed so it's just...
It's like small number plates on bikes. Normally you won't get stopped for it but it gives them a reason to do so and then they can look for anything else they can do you for.
You my or my not be caught, but one thing is for certain. Putting them on a vehicle that is too new for them and only fitting for 'style' purposes is a truly w anker thing to do.
No you dont as its a Normally Open (NO) switch, when it closes (ie when in reverse) it closes and forms a circuit. There likely isn't a live going through it.
It just joins the wires together and breakes them when not in reverse.
If you happen to already have a tdi of a known condition and all the bits laying around, then of course it still makes sense to do the conversion. But it's not the obvious go-to fix for a tired 19J that it used to be, as the days of cheap rusty...
There's a lot of advice going around from around 2006 or so, when you could buy a rotten Discovery with a decent enough 200tdi in it for not much money. Park the cars next to each other, lift the engine out and put in your old 90/110 relatively...
This is a very good question. And I'd say it is a bit of a mixed bag. I don't think such an engine will ever be worth the most. And I'd guess the majority of pre-Defenders where fitted with these over the V8. But just look at how crazy people go...
The best solution I've seen involves running them down the side of a raised air intake and in through the wing panel. I would personally do as above and stick two on the front bumper. Four extra lights really is excessive, perma-noon is great...
