Well, absolutely no luck getting a box locally so I've had to bite the bullet and order a recon box. Mucho expensive. The one I might have had locally is in a scrap Disco owned by one of those hoarding maniacs who just won't let anything go.

I'm possibly getting a used one local to me. Waiting to hear from the guy who tipped me off. I don't really fancy spending close to a grand for a recon box but if this doesn't pan out I might have to.

Yep, completely fecked. When I took the bell housing off it became apparent that it had snapped as it just flopped to one side. Surprisingly, when you turn the bearing the gearbox works but there's lots of movement on the shaft. Not sure if that's because the end plate is off mind. Never worked...

I think the input shaft is also fubar. It's very loose with a ton of axial movement.

Anyone have one for sale and can ship to Shetland for a reasonable price?

The manual gearbox in my Disco 2 has exploded internally and I'm struggling to find a replacement locally. However, I have a Disco 1 gearbox here that looks identical apart from the ident numbers. Is it a straight swap?
EDIT: Hmm, this might be a superfluous question. I've just measured the...

Been a long time since I posted any updates here. Really haven't had anything to post and this one's just a little job but it's something I should really have done while building it. Oh well, better late than never. I finally got around to fitting an Anderson connector under the bonnet where the...

Thanks for that. I'll try them.

I have decided to replace the steering box in my D2 as it's pretty worn and wanted to get a refurbished unit as new ones are very expensive. However, speaking to John Craddock, it seems that refurbished ones aren't available for my chassis number, only new. Mine's a late 2003 model and the part...

Funnily enough that's what my MOT tester said when I presented it for the first time after the rebuild.
And congratulations on getting it back on the road.

So a couple of problems cropped up the last time I took PD off road. I destroyed the rear prop doughnut and damaged the prop, and dislocated a spring which didn't seat properly when the axle returned to a more normal position. To be fair, this is the hardest I've driven it off road so far so...

Fitted replacement prop and doughnut today. All is well.

So last night I managed to get a used prop locally. Typical. At least I'll have a spare for the future.

"Highlands and islands" postage is generally more than mainland destinations due to the remoteness (and Shetland is as far away from the UK mainland as you can get) and logistics of getting stuff there. Especially so with large/heavy items.
I've actually found one at a reasonable price now...

That's probably what I'm going to do.
