    With manifold still on engine?

If I can’t drill with manifold in place I might try these…https://ebay.us/m/xUHvXw

I need to replace the front section of my exhaust. Despite heat and liberal use of injector release fluid two of the three exhaust bolts have sheared off in the manifold. Sort of good to hear plenty of people have had this problem. Question is...

Hi there, I don’t know your model of Landie but I can say that my similar problem recently turned out to be a faulty replacement alternator…Al

Old alternator back in. All good, exciter/warning light wire must not have been connected despite appearing to be in plastic holder. New alternator must be duff…Grrr. Thanks for help all! Al

Thanks Mystery. I’m hoping that wiring was never my problem and I have installed a duff new alternator! We’ll see later. A

OK, I read that there are two brown wires because some marques use the thinner one to feed power directly elsewhere, like a fuse box for example. Haven’t seen that.

Could be, why have them separate? More current? A

Thanks! That seems to show only two connections from the alternator? A

OK, thanks guys. Good to hear that the 12v thin wire is doing its job. The engine is earthed directly to the battery neg terminal which is earthed to the side of the radiator casing. None of this has changed since the battery was getting a...

Yes, red light stays on when running Voltage on battery is 12.3v at moment and doesn’t change when engine revs. To be fair the battery hasn’t had a charge for many starts and a 5 mile test drive with red light on so not surprised it’s only...

Connections seem fairly standard, certainly no changes made since alternator has been charging OK. Connections to alternator were in block originally with three connections. Two of the wires push onto thicker blade connections. The third goes to...

OK. So the earth strap from the battery bolts to the housing for the radiator. Maybe the engine earth should go there instead of direct to the battery? Looking at my ‘71 Spitfire the only connection from the negative post of the battery is to the...

Is that a loom that can be bought? Replace all the way to the dash light or just the heavier stuff?
  • Flat 6
Hi. My engine earth goes straight to negative terminal on battery. Is that a problem? A

Gawd I hate electrics. So I’ve just changed my alternator to a new higher output one as recommended in here. With old alternator the battery was not getting a charge but there was no charge warning light. With new alternator the battery is...

Thanks all, Nice quick job, went in from underneath and some injector release spray soon had the movement released again. While I was under there I noticed that the return spring had worn away so nice new spring on as well. Now onto alternator...

Morning all, Working through a few minor jobs on my SIII today, alternator change, new front exhaust section and handbrake not staying on. On the handbrake, anyone had this problem before? I'm hoping it is just clogged up and ratchet is just...

OK, I have my replacement 75amp alternator. I’m reading that this needs a 4mm thickness of wiring. Is that just replacing the thicker brown wire going to the solenoid/battery? Al

Thinner adds resistance, that's why crap jump leads get hot and why fuses blow

Hey all, I’ve ordered that upgraded alternator recommended above by Woodie. Electrics aren’t my strong point. Someone tell me pls what I need to upgrade and with what wiring? My gut tells me at least the ‘output’ side? Too thick would actually...
