Wide Angle propshafts: Which way round?

Hi Guys, Quick question as im in the middle of the job: Im fitting Britpart wide angle propshafts to my Defender 90 200 TDI. Which way round does the front propstaft go? By that, does the sliding part go towards the gearbox or diff? On the rear Im going to put it on the same way as the...

Hybrid rear axle on my 90

Its possible it was a 24 spline diff. TBH im not sure after 9 months and I was much earlier into my landy learning experience at that point! I think Im going to get either second hand 10 Spline FTC with raised edges or aftermarket. Time for more googling!

Hybrid rear axle on my 90

They got left with the old diff. At the time I didn't realise the significance of the different axles and shafts etc. Every day is a school day with a Landy!

Hybrid rear axle on my 90

Hi, I'm having issues... and need some help so I can avoid buying the wrong bits. I have a 200 TDI Defender 90 but it has an early Discovery rear axle with disc brakes, non ABS. Last summer, not long after i got it I was on holiday in wales and it developed a horrible rumbling noise from the...

    Camper conversion. Ideas please.

I looked into this a while back but ended up with a 90! Anyhoo I did have some thoughts at the time. Have you considered a roof tent? They usually have additional ground level sections as well, lots of space. You could construct a removable kitchen type gubbins for the interior but have...

    Transmission Clunk of Doom!

Its only been 6 months since i my last post on this thread but I finally managed to get the halfshafts, CV joints and drive flanges changed on the front. After a slight hiccup lasting 4 months involving incorrectly assembling CV joints I managed to get it all together last weekend and now a...

CV joint separation... for a brand new Joint and shaft!

The halfshaft/cv joint endfloat. When I took it to pieces one side didnt have the spacers behind the circlip. However Ive fitted new CV joint and drive flanges anyway so it needs doing. Just gotta get 1.6mm worth of spacers....

CV joint separation... for a brand new Joint and shaft!

Got this sorted, though it took a lot of whacking to get the new CV joint off the halfshaft. Put back together with the spacer! Just gotta sort the end float out on one side. Just how important is that? ;-p

CV joint separation... for a brand new Joint and shaft!

Thanks for the advice Its a 1990 90, with more than 10 splines. It possible I didn't align the bronze bush correctly. I must admit this was done a few months ago and its been on axle stands since (in my defence I have an outdoors job and therefore weekend working on my landy outdoors in winter...

CV joint separation... for a brand new Joint and shaft!

Hi Chaps, I need a bit of advice about separating a CV joint from a halfshaft. Ive seen various guides saying that you hang the shaft in a vice with the CV joint facing down and give it a whack with a hammer. Thing is, I need to do this with a brand new one! I got distracted whilst putting the...

Nato Sankey Hook as recovery point?

Well, I went off road for the first time in my new Landy. Didn't need my Sankey hook for recovery. I did have to rescue a Mitsubishi though..... Watch! The world set right by Landrover - YouTube One of the other videos shows just how that Mitsubish got like that!

Nato Sankey Hook as recovery point?

Some good advice there, and yep, ive seen some fools on youtube doing ludicrous recoveries. One tip Ive been given is to put your bonnet up if being recovered from the front. That way it will take force of hooks etc. parting ways. Of course two things spring to mind... you cant see and the...

Nato Sankey Hook as recovery point?

Cheers! Will do a more thorough look at rear X member and how the hook is attached at the weekend. If its solid I will use it, but I do know its not 100% around the edges Never used a kinetic rope (when I was in the army it was eitther a rigid bar or Reccy mech for recovery!) but going with...

Nato Sankey Hook as recovery point?

What-o! Quick question for the experts. I recently bought a 1990 Defender 90. Its got a Nato sankey hook on the rear cross member. Its not an ex-military defender and this was probably put on by the original owner (a farmer) Is this suitable for use as a rear recovery point? Or should I just...
