That sounds really interesting. I didn’t know that was possible to put different engines in D4’s because of all the electronic gubbins. I did see a D4 for sale with a wrecked engine so it would be ideal for a project like that.

One of the good things about this forum is peoples honesty!
I’m gutted that D4’s have such bad engine issues as one of them would be perfect for me so there I was thinking a RR would do as their engines aren’t time bombs. But from what folks are saying on this thread and elsewhere on the forums...

Been looking at them too. Always liked the big Amazon’s but the are hard on fuel and would like something a bit better than the 90 to run back and forth to the farm.

is that because they rust?

How similar to an X5?
Wonder if one of them would be an option.

Don’t really want a pickup. Still keeping my 90. Tho tbh a pickup would prob be the most sensible choice.
Wanted a disco 4 but I don’t fancy waiting on the engine going bang so thought about a RR when I saw they were about the same price.

I don’t care if it’s a bit tatty tbh as it would be off road a lot and of course the RR are amazing at that even tho most won’t do much of that. Be a beast at towing as well surely. Seems a hell of a lot of car for the money. My dad had a 3 door RR classic V8 when I was small and he used it on...

From what I’ve read the engines aren’t bad and the turbos go when people don’t check the oil level, which won’t be happening here. Everything gets dipped each morning before it’s started.
Or is there an actual fault with the turbos?

Hi
Got a TD5 90, had it since new and it won’t be going anywhere.
Been looking at getting a Disco 4 commercial for the farm as well, wasn’t going to be too fussy about it’s condition because of what I’d be using it for as a farm run about etc but have been put off by tales of engine problems...

My missus has one of them... will have a wee shifty!

Not sure if that would do for me. Could see my cargo coming into the front.

The bottoms of both my seats are shagged and ripped to heck. I thought I’d like something a bit more comfy and heated because it’s a bit chilly in there sometimes as my landrover isn’t the most airtight! But it seems I’m not going to fit in with RX8 seats as I’m too tall.
Will have a look at...

Thanks for this. I’m 6’4” and taking the bulkhead out isn’t really an option as I’m always chucking feed bags and stuff in the back which needs to lean against the bulkhead. The main reason we never changed this td5 for a tdci was that I couldn’t fit in one and my knees touched the dashboard...

Hahaha
stuff like this is a bit annoying... we’ve been land rovers on the farm for ever.. think we’ve had 8... current one 2004 td5 with 217,000 miles from new... as too tall to fit in a tdci so kept it... get ribbed a lot with pals who’ve got pickups because “land rovers always break down”...
