I bought one of these last year. Really solid and easy to fit/take off with a little practice and covers the pedals on my 90 perfectly. Just don't drop it on your foot though. It's heavy!

I must admit I took the easy way out and shoved some Molyslip into the transfer box when I changed the oil and it certainly quietened it down once the oil warmed up. It's been like that for a few thousand miles now with no noticeable deterioration but YMMV.

Use the clutch to disengage gears (obviously). Best done on a straight road with no following traffic to annoy cos you'll have to stop to re-engage the transfer box.

Long shot. I had a difficult to pin down scraping/rubbing noise. It turned out to be the transfer box, although it sounded if it was coming from the front brakes. Try knocking the gearbox and then the transfer box into neutral when driving.

Update:
I've just received a slightly stiff phone call from AF. The operator spoke to her manager and they're issuing me with a complete 100% refund.

I've been given 10 litres of Halfords part synthetic 15W40 engine oil. On the pack there's a picture of a car with the word petrol.
Question: is this OK for a diesel engine? I wouldn't have thought there was much difference apart perhaps from a lesser detergent effect. However, I'm loath to...

When I got my renewal from Lancaster recently my premium had gone up from £200 to £380 ("we have scoured the universe for the best price for you" etc).
I went onto their website as a new customer and got a quote for £140! When I ran them to to check this they merely said, "But it's a different...

Just filled in 3 pages of questions to get a quote only to be told at the end that "your vehicle (it's an R reg Defender) is too old and is not applicable". Wish I'd known that before wasting 10 minutes on the questionnaire.

He's doing it 'cos he's probably 18 - or at least never progressed beyond there.
