Okay. A multimeter is a great tool. Don't need a top brand, something £20 or so will do. It will tell you if you've got 12 (or 24) at a wire. So you can see where the electric stops.

thakn you for the welcome. Looks like the speedo cable is quite easy tbh. i think the hardest part is going to be undoing the 3 screws as the overdrive is in the way. its 24V

Multi meters usually have 2 settings volts and bleep. but worth having 1.
