    Paddocks , A Cautionary Tale ..

Just be aware if you're searching on Paddocks website you can get suckered into buying the wrong part quite easily . I was looking for rear brake calipers for a 110 . Unaware that calipers for a 90 are different , I clicked on Brake Parts , then Calipers and Pistons . The first thing up was a...

    Dodgy New Brake Calipers .

Hi , it's a "peac" ? from China 🙄 although bought from Paddocks . They are a less substantial looking unit than the old Lockheed that came off it . The holes for the pad retaining pins are also very small . The depth of the groove at it's deepest is 30mm on the Lockheed but only 25 on the "peac"...

    Dodgy New Brake Calipers .

Hi all , I tried fitting a new brake caliper from Paddocks to my Defender today only to discover that it won't quite fit . It appears that the slot in the centre of the caliper hasn't been machined deep enough with the result the bolt holes are about 1mm short of covering the threaded hole...

Do Not Ignore The Weep , Or Surely You Will Weep .

No , I did it all myself . The box was bought from a Land Rover dealer here in Ireland . I also bought a new clutch kit and rear crank seal from Paddocks . When I worked out the cost of buying direct from Ashcroft and importing it to Ireland , taking into account the currency exchange , taxes ...

About £1300 including a new clutch kit , rear crank seal etc .. oil would have been cheaper .

Do Not Ignore The Weep , Or Surely You Will Weep .

My new gearbox from Ashcroft's is now in and working nicely . The tragedy of it is that it should never have needed replacing . I had always had a very slight ooze of oil under the gearbox , but at every oil change I could still feel oil in the filler hole so I didn't worry about it . At some...

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

I don't seem to be getting power to the The sound of a donkey braying disturbed the peace of the neighborhood this morning as I discovered the end of the positive cable lying hidden behind the engine mount ! Being unfamiliar with the wiring to the starter I just assumed the only wires to go on...

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

Nothing is working . No chance of a burnout as I only jammed the cable end against the gearbox and then held the cable on the battery pole When I initially tried to make a connection between the chassis and the gearbox , sparks and smoke made me take it away double quick . After it changed its...

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

I have absolutely no idea what it is . All I know is I have a negative cable end that doesn't seem to be in reach of anything All fuses are good , including the big ones in the engine bay .
