The answer was yes my injection pump was phucked . The impeller was totally gummed up . A proper clean and a new Viton seal kit sorted it out .

Hi , no , if you operate the throttle it will increase the revs up to the point where it starves of fuel then you will hear it go quieter and slow down . As that is happening the fuel coming out of the return will trail off . The only reason it's starting and running now is the new lift pump is...

There is something I will look at first . There have been reports of similar symptoms from a stuck boost pin . If a fully primed Bosch VE is depending on fuel being pushed into it to function then there is something wrong with it , the only question is what .. won't be today though , miserable...

Only to check and replace them one at a time after the fault occurred , so no mix ups .

Thanks for that but since the brand new lift pump is pumping well that wouldn't be the issue here . A Bosch VE injection pump is fully capable of sucking diesel direct from a tank without a lift pump in between .. in fact that is what this pump has been doing for the last eight years as the lift...

Hi , I sorted the starting problem on my Defender 300tdi with the addition of a new lift pump . It'll tick over ok but increasing the revs causes it to starve and bog down . The filter is new and all hoses and connections are clear . Timing is spot on and there's no smoke . Injector connections...

Managed to run the engine today with no fuel being supplied to the injection pump ! 😂🤔 I installed a new lift pump which is on the homebrew line . It now starts and runs but bogs down and starves if revved . The more you rev it the less comes out of the return pipe . New filter and all lines...

I haven't gone near the pump yet . It was just a bit of confusion about what I should be seeing in that hole . I'll check out the Trailer Fitter's Toolbox video again on how to check and adjust the pump .

Fair point . It is quite possible my Landy has driven me mad ! I'll get someone to turn the engine by hand while I lie underneath and watch for the slot to come round . It's a long time since I last did this so memory could be a bit hazy ..

I know about the two slots , what I can't figure out is where my ring gear has gone ! Looking in the hole it's just a smooth surface , no teeth . 🤔

Am I hallucinating or has my Landy finally driven me mad ? I wanted to check my injection pump timing but when I looked in the wading plug hole to bring the slot round to lock the flywheel there was no ring gear ! Only a smooth surface .. what the heck is going on ?

Rocker shaft is fine . Looks like I'll have to remove the injection pump and have it checked . I'll remove the inspection cover on the front cover and check the pump timing first .

I have no way to do that but the Bosch VE should be capable of sucking enough fuel from a jar right beside it , considering it normally has to suck it all the way from the tank and through a filter .

Right . I'll check it tomorrow , thanks .
