The answer was yes my injection pump was phucked . The impeller was totally gummed up . A proper clean and a new Viton seal kit sorted it out .

Hi , no , if you operate the throttle it will increase the revs up to the point where it starves of fuel then you will hear it go quieter and slow down . As that is happening the fuel coming out of the return will trail off . The only reason it's...

There is something I will look at first . There have been reports of similar symptoms from a stuck boost pin . If a fully primed Bosch VE is depending on fuel being pushed into it to function then there is something wrong with it , the only...

Only to check and replace them one at a time after the fault occurred , so no mix ups .

Thanks for that but since the brand new lift pump is pumping well that wouldn't be the issue here . A Bosch VE injection pump is fully capable of sucking diesel direct from a tank without a lift pump in between .. in fact that is what this pump...

Maybe. On a 200tdi you can block off the fuel pipe from tank to lift pump and it will start and tickover but won't really drive. Sounds similar to your problem but if you have checked you have a good supply of fuel then maybe it is the injection...

Hi , I sorted the starting problem on my Defender 300tdi with the addition of a new lift pump . It'll tick over ok but increasing the revs causes it to starve and bog down . The filter is new and all hoses and connections are clear . Timing is...

Managed to run the engine today with no fuel being supplied to the injection pump ! 😂🤔 I installed a new lift pump which is on the homebrew line . It now starts and runs but bogs down and starves if revved . The more you rev it the less comes out...

I haven't gone near the pump yet . It was just a bit of confusion about what I should be seeing in that hole . I'll check out the Trailer Fitter's Toolbox video again on how to check and adjust the pump .
  • D
Fair point . It is quite possible my Landy has driven me mad ! I'll get someone to turn the engine by hand while I lie underneath and watch for the slot to come round . It's a long time since I last did this so memory could be a bit hazy ..
  • D
I know about the two slots , what I can't figure out is where my ring gear has gone ! Looking in the hole it's just a smooth surface , no teeth . 🤔
  • D
    It's a 300tdi .

Am I hallucinating or has my Landy finally driven me mad ? I wanted to check my injection pump timing but when I looked in the wading plug hole to bring the slot round to lock the flywheel there was no ring gear ! Only a smooth surface .. what...

Rocker shaft is fine . Looks like I'll have to remove the injection pump and have it checked . I'll remove the inspection cover on the front cover and check the pump timing first .
  • D
I have no way to do that but the Bosch VE should be capable of sucking enough fuel from a jar right beside it , considering it normally has to suck it all the way from the tank and through a filter .
  • D
    Right . I'll check it tomorrow , thanks .
  • D
I thought the rocker shaft only broke if the timing belt failed .
  • D
Well that's a new angle .. what exactly should I be looking for ?
  • D
Very different symptoms compared to mine . I'm no further on with the thing here .
  • D
What exactly happened your pump ?
  • D
Indeed , it's always a risk . I run a 4/3/1 ratio of wvo/diesel/petrol so a weaker mixture than yours , also petrol is a great solvent so should keep the system clean . The few times I checked injectors and glow plugs they were remarkably clean ...

Since you can bypass one system with the other and still have the problem then you only have injectors or injection pump left on the fuel side. For the cost you may aswell get the injectors refurbed if you get the injection pump done.
  • D
I put a length of clear hose from a jar of diesel directly to the injection pump but no change .
  • D
I've actually been running it on a blend of veg oil petrol and diesel since 2017 in a switchable unheated two tank system . The "homebrew" tank goes through it's own filter and hoses to the lift pump and the original diesel tank hoses bypass the...

Maybe a new lift pump as well, Start cheap and easy before moving to more expensive things

I would put a new filter and clear pipe from filter to injection pump first, costs very little. Adjust the idle screw up a little bit. In our case on the 200tdi it was injection pump.

Hello all , more problems with old Rattles , my Defender 300tdi . Started it up yesterday afternoon and it felt a bit rough , drove it down the street but it lost power so I pulled over .. it would tick over roughly but any attempt to move off...
