There was tiny amount of play in the UJ, replaced though a couple of days ago and touch wood theres no funny noises now.

Happened again the otherday, top hose felt fine, I pulled over and the needle dropped straight back down and was fine from then on again.

Ill have a check cheers, also noticed theres some play in the front UJ, maybe that little bit of play could cause enough vibration to cause some noise. Il update anyway in case anyone else comes across it. thanks James

Pressing the clutch makes the noise stop.
Its loudest in 1st and 2nd, but still audible in 3rd, not sure if this is due to the engine/road noise though drowning out when its in 3rd.
Its not all the time either, sometimes it wont make a noise and others its quiet audible driving regularly.

The heater still works fine, so Im guessing that's not the head that's gone? Ill check the oil for mayo this evening...
Thanks Sierra, Ill also give that a go. No I didn't squeeze the top hose - what would I expect to find if I did that? Nope no aircon, I've not flushed coolant in the 3 years...

Had a recon gearbox fitted a month or so ago as the original was leaking like a f##ked fridge and it had already had seals replaced, also it became hard to change gear when it got hot.
I had clutch and flywheel done at the same time, after a few days there was a small almost rotational noise...

Last night after a run out of about 20 miles, coming up a fairly steep hill there was a sudden loss of power and the temp needle shot up, it didn't make it into the red but rose rapidly so I pulled over and turned it off.
Checked the rad to see if it was blocked by anything which is wasn't...

Few pics from last night, basically a chap in a saloon with his lad (cant recall make/mpdel) took a wrong turn and went down a tight lane above Hebden Bridge, and carried on going when the track got a bit rough. My mate in his works van went to help and also got stuck so he gave me a call.
