Series 3 SWB 200TDI cambelt change

Hi, I am due to change the cambelt on my 1977 series 3 SWB. It is fitted with a 200tdi engine. I believe that there are a few issues with this job due to the position of the chassis crossmember. Can anyone who may of done this previously shed any light on any issues or offer advice prior to...

    Defender imported from Lagos

Good morning, thanks for the comments received so far. If the lady were to decide to sell the car and presuming that the underside is not in a mess can anyone suggest a a value if it were to go up for sale? I appreciate it is a difficult one to judge from pictures alone but a ball park figure...

    Defender imported from Lagos

Hi, thanks for the replies.I'll ask about the aircon out of interest. I know that it does have some sort of bulletproof screen fitted due to the situation over there during the cars early days. Hopefully no longer required... Dean

    Defender imported from Lagos

Hi, I have been asked by a friend if I can find out whether it her Defender has any particular value as she is considering restoring it. She used the car when she worked for the MOD in Lagos and imported it to the UK in 2001 when she returned home. It is a 1987 110, left hand drive, originally a...

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

Hi, as an update I have uploaded a picture of the offending article. As you can see it's not in bad nick and has no signs of ever having split pin holes. I presume the four were fabricated by the last owner, Dean

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

Good morning all, I removed the spring plate and it was very solid. It just needs a wire brush and a re-paint.I have new U-bolts on the way.I am going to either drill out the sheared bolt shaft or, if unsuccessful, grind off and replace the small pipe section and replace it with a solid pipe and...

    First problem..

Hi, I have hopefully attached a photo of my series 3 'Choolip'.The car was named by my grandson's and they also chose the spelling... My every day car is the Discovery Landmark, a great all round car, the seven seats are handy and as I do a far few motorway miles it's ideal. I bought the series...

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

Hi, yes, that was my thought too.Presumably the pin went from top to bottom on the shaft? so should (in theory) be fairly easy to locate.I can't see why the pins weren't used in the first place as the tapping etc must have taken time on all four wheels. I'll get back to it over the next few days...

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

I see, thanks, that's why I can't find any information at all about this set up. It did seem a bit odd as there was no way I could get enough leverage on the bolt to remove it and obviously a split pin and washer would be far easier, thanks again.
