OK guys think i am just going to jump into this head first and go mental lol. As I am an amateur could anyone please point me to the specific parts that I am in need of because knowing me I'll end up wasting money on the wrong parts.

I read that link and all it mentioned was trade dealers. I don't really think I have the confidence or finances to challenge anyone with court and I've already removed parts on the car so that might go against me. Thanks again guys trying to learn so much at once here

It was a private sale and not trade. I have contacted the old owner and he denies any knowledge of the problem even though my getting it and it going less than 12 hours later is highly suspect. Am I wrong in assuming private sold cars are sold as seen?

If I get the ird off I should be able to check if the gearbox splines are stripped though? If it is the gearbox splines then could I just change that leaving the ird as it is? Obviously changing the ird when i change the vcu?

Yeah by new I meant relative to the one in it at the moment haha. If I can get it on the road then I can get the wife off my back for the time being haha. Thanks again for all your help guys I'll keep you updated along the way.

OK guys hoping to get this sorted today. If i get a new ird on it so you think that will be enough to get me back on the road until I get a vcu. Still a bit confused as to whether I need an ird or gearbox.

Yeah I read the links but was not sure. So do you think it is the gearbox too? This is the worst when I am dying to drive it lol.

A refurbished ird unit? I'm assuming I'll also need a new vcu to get the four wheel drive back but will I need new prop shafts too? Or are the ones I had on OK? Would it be the ird that's causing the lack of even 2wd? Or will I need something else to fix that. Thanks alot guys you have...
