My rears were ok but my front went partly inside the arch ???? Any help or ideas.

I know this is an old chat but I'm putting some on my 96 defender and when taking the old arches off the front theres a 4 inch gap now inside where the wheel lining met the old arch and the new big one sits on the outside. Dosnt look right what have I done wrong????
