I Always make a note of where seals are sitting before removing old ones. As the originals would have been there the longest there may be some witness marks left to go by if LR did recess your ones.
It's the seals, they are rubbish, it's quite well documented for years.
We fitted "OEM" both leaked almost straight away. Out of principle I made the supplier refund the money.
Bought 2 NAK seals, damaged one as they are a very tight fit into...
What's the sealing face like on the shaft?
Is it scored and if it is can you rub some emery cloth around to smooth it out. If you can get a finger nail in a score line it may be needing to be changed😬
If you click on this you'll find there have been quite a few threads on this problem.

There have been posts on exactly this problem so you are not on your own and not going barmy.
i cannot remember much about it but I have a feeling @sierrafery found an answer, i.e. a seal that worked and also how the problem comes about.

Okay so sump off and check crankshaft for damage taking one main crank cap of at a time and then replacing they have stamped numbers on 1 to 5 the only one that was damaged was No 3 where the crank main bearings had spun but managed to get...
Also, it might be worth re-checking sump bolt tourqe after a couple of days. Did mine today before putting under tray back on and was surprised how much they tightened up, despite already having done them up to 25nm as per manual.

Just replaced my bolt @ 168k on 2004 manual. Still in place.
Quick tip if anyone has trouble with keeping the sump gasket in place, as it's supposed to be instaled dry, I used thin cable ties through the holes to keep it in place then cut each in...
Hi Stanleysteamer I did know the con rods were fracture split as you say. But was probably not clear enough in my first post where the bolt came undone on the oil pump and brought my poor disco 2 td5 to a halt. It is actually the No 3 cap on the...
Thanks for the reply no the crank looks fine my problem is the part number for the crank bearing cap marked as number 3 which is damaged and I am unsure if the caps are interchangeable as they are numbered 1 to 5
