I recently bought a 1974 S3 Lightweight and lovely as she is, will only reach about 40mph. I'm new to the marque so can anyone tell me if this is normal please?

Or is it more than half? Anyway, they quoted pennies. Some firms I called wanted the best part of a years wages to insure a 40 year old vehicle.
