Yes but if someone had said they would get the bolt out for a fiver I'd gladly have paid it so money well spent. It was me m'lud I am guilty as charged. Top one came out without a fight, the bottom one nearly stayed there.

Sounds like a plan. I don't fancy replacing the joint unnecessarily as it's a bit beyond my capabilities nowadays, so I'd have to pay a garage to do both vehicles. Thanks for advice.

To conclude this thread it transpired I had bought a dodgy tank of fuel at myour local supermarket filling station. Drained and refilled with 90 litres of ESSO Premium and within 10 miles all symptoms had disappeared! Thanks for all your suggestions...every little helps........☺
