Ha! could be a contender...! Spline looks like its worn completely smooth...

Best of luck, hope it is just the slave...

So, may have it sorted...(touchwood!!) Replaced the flexible hose and bled the system, problem was still there, re-tightened all the joints on the hydraulic system bled it again and everything seems ok. Woo hoo!
Looking back at the whole thing I think there were several problems. The slave...

It's looked better that's for sure!

It's odd, because there is no obvious fluid loss, no drips, and the reservoir appears full, so my thinking is with vibration and are use these cracks open up just enough for the system to suck in air

That's exactly what happens,e running nothing. engine off all gears no problem. I have replaced both slave and master cylinder and bled the system so I'm guessing it must be the clutch then...?

When I put in the new master cylinder I made sure the adjustment was exactly the same as the old one. when that didn't work I adjusted it almost to the end of the thread for a bit more leverage and it didn't seem to make any difference...

Just googled it. I think that was replaced along with everything else about 10000 miles ago could I really have one through a clutch in 10000 miles? I do do a reasonable amount of towing but surely that seems excessive...?
