Here's an example. The roof rails are round in cross-section and probably intended to match the chrome pipes it has by way of side steps.

I'm off to Wales in six weeks or so for some camping. I don't travel light, and I've got two daughters and a big dog; so I'm keen to optimise my load carrying capacity. I'm thinking about a roof rack.
This isn't a huge expedition (drive there on the motorway, drive to Waitrose for supplies...

Aha! Just below the passenger-side kick panel, tucked under the carpet.
Now to figure out why the stereo doesn't play the sound of the phone (it's possible that the phone was originally wired to a separate speaker rather than the stereo).
If it gets any more complicated I will just return...

I've had a look around the fuze box area without spotting it, and behind the kick panels. I'll check again with a torch.
It's possible that the unit has been taken out altogether, but I don't know why you'd do that and leave the cradle in the cubby box.

I've got a 1998 Discovery 1 which has an aftermarket Nokia CARK 91 handsfree. I've got an after-aftermarket Bluetooth kit for the handsfree, but I have no idea where the handsfree unit itself (not the cradle - that's in the cubby box) is.
