The transfer box has been mentioned on failing first. Since removing the prop, there is rattling sound from the near side front on acceleration in 3/4/5 gear. Doesn't last long but could this be anything to do with the ird? There's also a grinding noise when braking fairly hard. A bit like...

Checked the diff oil level by trying to put more in but it just came trickling out as it was full.

The oil level is fine with no signs of a leak. The car hasn't long passed an MOT and no wheel bearings were mentioned. Is there anything else that could cause the noise - is it worth changing the rear tyres?

The prop was removed to see if the noise stopped but it hasn't solved it. Also noticed the prop bearings have gone when it got removed

The prop has already been removed but still getting the humming from the back of the car.

Thanks for that. How do I check the vcu bearings?

Thanks for the reply. There's a humming coming from the rear of the car and been told it's probably the diff. Is there something else it could maybe be?

Hi, I'm looking to replace the rear diff on my freelander 2004 1.8. I've got the option of a second hand one from a friend. Would I be able to just swap them over or could they be different? Many thanks for any advice.

There is no white smoke and no oil/water mix anywhere just a lot of coolant loss . Does this still sound like IMGF or HGF?
-
D
Will an IMG failure draw air into the system causing an air lock?
-
D
How much coolant would normally be lost if the img has failed? And would it cause the engine to boil?

There are 2 shown in some places when I look for a replacement online. Just wondered if they both need to be done or is it just the green rubber one? See picture attached - if it come out lol!!

Hi guys, thanks for the help so far!! Is it worth changing the metal gasket on the exhaust inlet or will it just be the rubber o ring one that I'll need to change?
