Thanks for all the help and info I found the problem after checking all relays and wires it turns out to be the stalk has gone iffy and intermittent now but can sort it now

We're is the relay that controls the side lights and I don't think it's the earth as it works ok with a different live

I ran it straight from my aux fuse box to back of light cluster that then gave me rear,dash and front side lights also the buzzer when the door is open

can anyone help please i have lost all side lights on disco 1 300tdi (no rear,dash or front side lights but still got dipped headlights) i have checked all fuses and none gone and had to run permanent live to get home it was fine then parked up for an hour and nothing when i got back in...

im not sure about freelanders but on disco you will need to pull roof liner out to do this job and yes this is were the water runs to get to drain tubes. but as i said it is a bad design and will need sealing properly to ensure you dont get this problem in the future on disco you can rip roof...
