Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Something I hadn't read before - if I am reading 50 plus PSI on a gauge fitted to where the oil pressure sender switch is, does that mean that the pressure relief valve must be working properly? Someone from another forum suggested this.

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

I think the photo is parts of an old tee seal and maybe a very battered lash cap. Why they are in there a bit of a mystery because seals look all intact and good and not leaking, but most importantly, its not solving my noise problem. I dug through some old tools and found a 2 foot old screw...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Are there any forensic mechanics out there! I don't think the motor is dead but found a couple of 'skeletons' in the sump. They are not magnetic and at first look like they could be teeth off a fibre gear, except don't seem to have contact surfaces. Anybody know these motors and can suggest...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

I'm not very good at this computer etc stuff. Last time I pasted the URL and the video from the facebook page nicely embeded itself. This time I can't seem to repeat what i did. If you click on this link it should go to the page and hopefully you can see it. If your smarter than me and can paste...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Sorry for the silence - I refresh the window on this page but it seems i have to log out and back in again to see new posts. Could be some sort of settings on my computer. First I checked the timing of the injection pump and with the flywheel pin in, I couldn't get the injection pump pin in...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Thanks - yes it has new timing belt not long before the new head and modified parts - the tensioner or a pulley? I can't remember but I think it is supposed to solve that early problem the 300 had. Finally back and will head out now to do some exploring.

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Back again... but funeral to go to so still another day or so from investigating further. Thanks for the ideas. Can you see any way I could get the timing out by just changing head and vac pump? I will still check and perhaps get injectors tested, but I'm just trying to back up what i am doing...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

I'm heading 'out of range' for the next few days, so won't be able to respond until Thursday to any posts.

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Its a new vacuum pump that I put in at the same time that I replaced the head gasket, so that timing fits. But i think I swapped the old one back in to check - was years ago now - and I think it was still noisy. I guess i could make up a blanking plate to keep the oil in and start it without it...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

That's a good idea. I will see if I can record it tomorrow morning - then i have to go away for a few days, (so not being rude and ungrateful in not replying) Update from this afternoon - I fitted an oil pressure gauge and it read 50 psi at idle, going up to about 60 with a few revs - so I...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

Thankyou - It was long enough ago that I can't remember if i checked the location of hole. I would like to think i would have...... I certainly wouldn't forget to again! Its unfortunate the holes sometimes don't line up and this is not the first time i have read this in my recent research. I'm...

Low oil supply to 300TDI rockers

My defender has been off the road for ages now, mainly due to what i think is clutch fork failure and finding time to fix. But I have been trying to solve for some time a noisy top end and what seems like a low amount of oil coming out of the rockers. I did some searching and got a few ideas...

removing just 2 300tdi head studs - OK?

Excellent James, thankyou. Exactly what i needed to know that this is common. Will just leave it and monitor how it goes.

removing just 2 300tdi head studs - OK?

When i realised i had forgotten the bracket and then removed and replaced the bolt, no fluid had been in the system. The bit that concerns me is that after the car had been topped up from the top above the thermostat, and ran fine and cool for a couple of hours continuous drive, and the water...
