Brake Saga 2 (revenge of the Landy)

Well...I've given up for now. The Landy will sit on the field until I have the time and energy to start again from scratch. Maybe I'll wait for the new snail adjusters to come in and then start with those and new drums as well. In the meantime I went and bought a van yesterday. I've spent far...

Brake Saga 2 (revenge of the Landy)

Okay, so you asked to be updated. Here it is! It failed! AGAIN! It failed on three things... Brakes still pulling to left...a little. Otherwise 65% efficiency for the service brake. Which is “great”, he said. Smoke from exhaust The seats and seat backs not suitably secured! (Said, “I...

    Brake saga continues

It goes in Wednesday to the "friendly" MOT guy...unless I decide to take it to the original one tomorrow...call me impatient! I'll let you know. And thanks for the tip on the pulling to the left. I'll swap the flexies tomorrow. I should have done it anyway. At least now I can bleed the system...

    Brake saga continues

I guess you're all tired of my brakes then! Oh well, it's done now. I THINK! I'll know tomorrow or Wednesday...turns out we have a local Council run MOT station with a Landy Club nut as a tester, and he gets all the series landies to test... Also...for the ref of others in a similar...

    Brake saga continues

Brake saga continues! Okay, so after all the work for the MOT – which was originally on Dec 18th! - I did the welding, the poor window washer supply (that's laugh!), the trackrod end, the loose (and danger to the public!) inner wing panel, and then got onto the brakes. You may remember my...

    Alternator or Battery?

Some of this explains my 2.25 diesel's HORRIBLE cold morning start syndrome. I changed the starter & alternator, and upgraded the glow plugs and put a 650cranking amp battery on and she was fine through the summer. About October she started (or didn't!) again. It'd take a full minute on the...

    Screw on brake drum

Having spent more than a few days this last week taking wheels and drums off...putting them back on...back off etc. I feel qualified to answer this one... take a small cold steel chisel, or a stoat flat-headed driver and tap it around in the correct direction using what little is left of the...

    Another Brakes question!

Thanks for the new responses. All are welcome. I had already bought a full brake kit from Paddocks, the problem is that they have NO new adjusters whatsoever. And apparently nobody else does either. At least none of the thirty odd places I called. Paddocks said, "they were supposed to be in...

    Another Brakes question!

Thanks for the replies. I've got a flare kit coming in the morning from a friend. I'd have ordered one from screwfix, or for that matter bought one anywhere had I needed to, but as I use the Landy every day speed is more important at the moment. The MOT station have sat on the Landy since...

    Another Brakes question!

Hello all, I managed to sort the core plug problem, and all the welding and other stuff for the MOT, but she's still failed on the brakes... There aren't any snail cam adjusters anywhere in the UK it seems, and as the old ones haven't been moved since the damned thing was built in '83 they...

    weird coolent loss problem

That's what it was. It had popped out, and had a crease in the centre as if it has been hit with a ball pein from inside. New one in situ and sealed...I'll give it 24hrs and reassemble everything and give it a water test...god i hope it's sealed!!! Many thanks for the help

    weird coolent loss problem

Many thanks, lads. I'd almost come to the same conclusion but you've settled me now. So tomorrow it's a strip down again and fit a new one...and oil and so forth. It's odd that there are no refs to it in Haynes or the full manual. Cheers Andy

    Hello from Suffolk

Hello all, I'm glad I found this forum as all the others seem to have vanished into the ether. I have a 1983 (Diesel) series 3 2.25 88" and she's always trying to force me into an asylum. SWMBO is constantly saying, "get rid of it!" but I can't! She doesn't offroad in the usual sense...

    weird coolent loss problem

Hello folks, this is my first post on here, and having looked through previous posts I can't find anything similar to my query, so here it is. I hope somebody can help! Landy: Series 3 88” 2.25ltr Diesel 1983 (no mods) I have spent three days doing various bits for the MOT, full brakes...
