The axle or the driveshaft? You can remove the driveshaft. You'll have a FWD freelander, but it's better that the scrapyard. The rear axle isn't bolted to the chassis, I hope. There's usually some kind of suspention between them...

I've just had a very similar problem. It was indeed the rear brakes sticking due to insufficient greasing. A little copper grease will solve your problems... :)

There is no real difference in RHD and LHD freelanders. The dash is assembled in a different way, but uses the same part. Put steeringwheel where passenger airbag used to be. And rewire... Although I agree this alone isn't worth the hassel... Then you'll need to change wipers, steering...

Could be a dead relais of motor rather then a cable...

I'm not a big expert, but sounds like either a cracked chassis, or the VCU is giving problems...

You'll need to remove the front bumper to access the lower screw. But the indicator uses the same connections you can access from the engine bay without removing the light unit. You can also access the indicator from a little hatch in the front wheel arch.

It'll be hard to explane how to replace a hand brake cable over the internet. Best advice I can give you is to get a Haynes manual. There's a step by step explanation of how to replace them. Including pictures. Very handy! It's not a very hard job to do... Well, if it's using more fuel then...

Well, it's still all wheel drive. So light off roading should be doable. Think grassy fields, light sand trails, that sort of stuff. Stay clear of big pools of mud, bumpy rocks and those things. But you'll be able to cross a meadow or two...
