I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on how many injectors I should change, based on the readouts and the leak off test? I’m thinking definitely 4 and potentially 1 too… trying to refrain from throwing too much money at parts given its overall...
Try running it with the air filter cover removed. That way crankcase fumes cannot get in to the inlet. Also try running with disconnected EGR & intercooler hoses. That way you can eliminate turbo seals leaking. Basically your dividing the...
Edit:
I fitted a new PCV/crankcase breather kit, the one below. The kit I changed out had an oily filter, but I wouldn't say loads of oily residue around the casing. It was a bit oily, for sure. Annoyingly I seem to have thrown the original out -...
Ok chaps, update on @ChuggyFreelander ’s car…
Main issues for MOT are excessive smoking and handbrake. My advice was to sort the smoking first, if dealt with, then replace the rear brakes.
Seems to be an injector issue going on as the balancing...

Off-topic, but as promised;
PB blaster is my first go-to for releasing rusty nuts and bolts. Soaking time is your friend here.
Owatrol Polytrol is brilliant for restoring your black trims on the car.
@Freddie17 has kindly been round - here are some screenshots .Thoughts appreciated... injectors, as expected, plus MAP sensor. Have included 2 photos of injector readout.
P1613 MAP Control code reappeared after Freddie cleared the codes that...
I am waiting on the return of two EGR and i have two in the shed that need doing, when i get time to sort them out which would be this weekend sometime.
A lot of the 'go-to' stuff has been done by the OP already, including PCV and MAP, but we'll get some checks and read-outs and report findings.
The intake manifold and EGR has been cleaned also - @Arctic2 do you still have any cleaned + gutted...
Hopefully Freddie will report back to us so we know what is going on, looks like the injector needs to be changed out, make sure EGR, manifold & MAP sensor is clean, drop some injector cleaner into the tank, it's always good to book your MOT time...
Update... MOT didn't go well. In fact, garage called me after starting it up and turning it straight off again as after sitting for hours, it was doing the usual white smoke and misfiring on starting. I explained that it would stop smoking after...
Ok, thank you 🙏
He has, very kindly. I’ll see how the MOT goes - if it drastically fails then I won’t be pursuing it I don’t think as just doesn’t make financial sense really. If we’re good then I shall take him up on it 👌
Personally i would say they are one and the same, you get the same or come to the same conclusion, clearly No 4 injector needs to be changed then go from there, do another leak back test or get it on the code reader and check the injectors that...
Sorry @Arctic2 - forgive my ignorance- so does it matter whether a “leak off” or “leak back” test was done? Just concerned as to whether this affects the interpretation of the results.
Clearly either way injector 4 is (the most) dodgy given the...
Ah. I've discovered that "leak off" and "leak back" tests are different things... I did ask for a leak back test but clearly this was lost in translation because they've performed a "leak off' test according to the invoice. I guess this would...
Thanks for this. I will ask what the duration of the test was. The notes provided said "Cylinder 4 excessive leak, cylinder 1 & 2 low return of fuel. Advice would be to remove all injectors for testing". So he's saying the low amount in No 2 is...
Hi all, injector leak back test done… 🫣
As expected - issues!
Please could someone be kind enough as to explain them to me? Mechanic was in a rush, said clearly 4 has excessive leak and 2 clogged. He said he didn’t know if 1 and 3 are correct...
No worries @MGT - was just interested. Thank you @Arctic2 - that’s really kind - I’m in Kent. I’ve got it booked in (time constraints) to get the air intake temp sensor plug rewired, handbrake tightened and an injector leak-back test, so we’ll...
I have spare injectors for the TD4 where are you based in the UK i think i may have the connection plug also with some wire connected to it, which i will double check tomorrow if you still need, drop me a message if you do.

Sorry for the late reply. For some reason i missed your post. Yes, I replaced the injector. It seems difficult until you do one, and you read a lot of stories about them refusing to come out. So far I've been lucky, and I've done a few now. The...
Hi all- went to fit the new air intake temperature sensor (the one at the front of the engine next to the intake) and discovered that one of the wires to it is broken (see pic). I’m positive I didn’t do this as I was very careful getting the plug...
