If by fitting top hat liners I can fit and forget then it's one less thing down the road to worry about regardless even if it is expensive the entire engine will be apart so it's the perfect time to do it.

The head gasket was blowing out the side not on the water jacket still need to pressure test the block? Oil level is fine too. I know liners will not be DIY nor would skimming the head. I'm good with a file but not that good haha I think I need to set a weekend aside and pull it all apart see...

I'm in no rush to fit the engine. If I was to go down the route of complete rebuild on that engine would it be beneficial to upgrade a few bits like the liners you mentioned. I'm looking at a good couple of years before I get around to actually fitting it. But then a rebuild makes sense...

So anyway if I get an OEM ra1233 head gasket set from Rimmer's which fits 3.9,4.0 and 4.6 I take it that it will fit my engine regardless then?

56d52840A engine number. Will see if I can get the number cleaned up a bit more tomorrow. Head gasket is gone on it so can't do much till I know what to buy for it.

It does say 56D the picture does it no justice in the dark shed it's in at the moment. As far as I am aware it came out of a discovery 2 and I know the mileage was at 110k other than that I have no other history.

Hoping someone on here can shed some light on an engine I have acquired for my V8 conversion it's a rover V8 but I can't find the engine code anywhere online it's a 56D would love ot know what I'm working with so I can buy the right parts and the specs of the engine instead of guessing.
