We are CFUK Concepts Ltd, a UK company specialising in the design and fabrication of parts from composite materials, basically carbon fibre and glass fibre - even Kevlar and other fibres.
Given the following behind Land Rover, the recent end to the manufacture of the Defender, and the reputation for corroding bodywork, we thought why not offer replacement parts for this vehicle in composite?
We have bought a 'mint' shell from a 2013 Defender 90, and had the individual parts scanned. This will allow us to produce exact replicas of the metal bodywork, from composite, accurate to within 0.02mm, meaning they are fully interchangeable with existing bodywork.
We plan to start by offering the Bulkhead, the Doors, and the [Puma] Bonnet, to 'test the water' - before moving on to the rest of the Defender 90 components, then different models, fully customised carbon fibre vehicles, etc.
These composite parts, whether glass fibre or carbon fibre based, will be light, strong, tough, and virtually immune to corrosion and weathering. Importantly, what we are offering are fully autoclaved pre-preg components, NOT lower quality wet-lay / chopped strand mat.
Furthermore, we are confident that our glass fibre based parts will be priced lower than the standard replacement metal parts from Land Rover.
This thread is our attempt to create a little interest within the Land Rover community, before we launch properly later in the Summer.
