Thanks for that
I have a lot of paper work with my TD5 from the previous owner but I cant find anything that indicates that the diffs or transfer oil have been changed so they'll get done.
-
Sorry no. I assume it was every year my manual doesn't say.
What should it be?
-
Sorry James do you mean EP is 'old fashioned mineral oil and perfectly good to use?
-
So, as long as it's 75w 90 fully synthetic and changed about once a year all should be good then. Comma do a fully synthetic too but eurocarparts are doing a deal on the Triple QX fully synthetic so will probably get that instead.
Mr S1 - I've not come across Ep so will stick to 75w 90 as per book.
-
The Comma is winning on price but is semi synthetic does it have to be fully synthetic as the Castrol is?

Views?
The dealer book for my LR discovery 2 2004 manual says to use Castrol Syntrax 75w 90 in both diffs and transfer box my question is this:
Castrol - £16 per litre
Comma SX 75w 90 GL 5 high performance- £6.40 per litre (£32 for 5 litres)
Triple QX 75w 90 - £8 per litre
They all conform to...

I'll reply to this myself in case it helps someone else. I bought a second hand Defender single CD/Radio with an aux input and it is a straight swap and the connections from the TD5 fit the same as does the CD/Radio in the existing hole without adaptation. The only thing is that the steering...

Does anyone know where/if you still can get these full length roof bars from. I've done the usual ebay/google search and all the information seems several years old now. I suspect it's going to be down to getting them off one that is being dismantled now but they seem rare?

This just gets better every day :) who could have predicted a simple filter question would be so complex!
But my minds made up.
After considering very carefully all the points raised I can no longer be arsed and will just leave the original one in  that's about as mechanical as I can...
-
Thanks. I shall put a tentative step into Dynachip world then ;) as I have absolutely no idea what the other two are going on about :D but they seem committed to their debate!
-
Oh dear....I certainly did open a hornets nest with that one didn't I o_O
Some very passionate debate there thanks .... I enjoyed it.
I had no idea a simple 'Air Filter' would create such activity.
I will have a look into the 'chip' option.
I've heard that it can be detrimental to the engine...

Erm..o_O
I fear too much tinkering with the electrickery on the TD5 will only cause me more problems but happy to hear thoughts on that too.
Benefits vs Risks?
-
Cheers chaps...decision made then.
That's saved me a few quid. ;)

Afternoon.
Anyone put a K & N air filter in their TD5 and noticed any improvement in performance?
I'm considering the benefit but despite what K &N state at about £46 not sure if it will do much so looking for any real world experience.

I have a standard single CD Radio as supplied new in my 2004 TD5 but I have seen that the CD installed into a Defender has an auxiliary input on the front for things like ipods. Does anyone know if they are a straight swap in terms of size and connections?
