What make of parabolic spring kit - do you have experience of these?

I had a set of British Springs parabolics on an 88 series 3 diesel. Best mod ever! No problem with springs and easy (!) to fit a soaked all the bolts with penetrating oil for about month before attempting removal! Kept the standard shocks etc. and they worked no problems. The springs...

    errm, speedo cable

Sorry don't know about the bolts! You definitely do not need a reversing lamp to pass an MOT. Pretty sure a number plate lamp is an obligatory lamp, so you will need one for the test.

civilian fuel tank in a Lightweight

I have already lost one tank on my lightweight to rust, and the other is following suit! As I would also like to fit some "comfy" seats I figured this would be the ideal oportunity to fit a civilian style tank with an external filler, instead of having to remove the seats to fill up. Anyone...

    No low in the box

I had a similar problem with a Discovery. The high / low lever felt "sloppy" and would not engage low range. It would shift out of high into "neutral" - Ie no drive - but would not engage low ratio at all. The external linkage was all intact etc. and I was preparing for an expensive internal...

    Timeing belt or chain?

1985 is NOT a Defender - utility L/Rs became known as Defender when the TDI engine was fitted. The vehicle is a Land Rover 110 CSW probably and the engine has a timing belt. As for adjusting it - don't bother. To go to all the trouble of adjusting it you may as well fit a new one and be...

window in danger of falling out!

Hello all, Can anyone reccomend a good supplier for glazing channels / seals ? The window in the drivers door of my lightweight is about to part company with rest of the vehicle! The door top seems solid so I'm figuring on just (!) replacing the glazing channels. Some one must of done it...

    Speedometer Not Working

Hello,Had the same problem on 88' series three. The speedo drive in the gearbox was / is made of plastic and rounded out so would not drive the cable. To fix it i squashed the end of the cable inner with a pair of pliers and made sure it engaged with the plastic drive. All mended! If you have...

Stuck in 4 wheel drive in high range

My lightweight did a similar thing just the other night - and its mended! It could be the selector levers sticking at the front of the transfer case. Just above where the front propshaft joins the gearbox there is a little tin plate that covers the ends of the selctor shafts. There is no seal...

    gearing

Thanks for the replies guys. Don`t happen to know if standard 90 gearing is higher than series by any chance?? I know V8s have higher geared diffs, but what about 2.5 petrol / diesel 90s? Unless anyone wants to donate an overdrive to a good cause???:D

    gearing

 Hello all, I have a series 3 Lightweight Landy which is fitted with standard 4 speed (no overdrive) box and standard diffs. It already has "large wheels" and I would like to increase the gearing in a cost effective manner. I know overdrives, transfer case upgrades are...

running your car on vegtable oil

 With all the claims, counter claims, information (accurate and drivel)available on the subject it appears to me that the only way to find out if your diesel engine and all associated pumps, filters etc will cope with vege oil, or whatever else you pour in the tank, is to carry out a...

running your car on vegtable oil

I`m not sure that diesels can run on just gas alone. Some big trucks run a diesel / gas mix to increase power and fuel economy apparently. Although how using two types of fuel simultaneously achieves greater fuel economy is open to question! Sounds like a diesel version of Nitrous Oxide if...
