Horrible thing cancer, I got a call at lunch time today about a chap who is a customer in the yard a real character we always had good funny banter & no-one really gave him the time of day but he was a bit of a drinker. Was told he has 2 months...

Interior space might be a problem but would she consider a late Freelander or an early Disco Sport with the same 2.2 engine. Much better engine. Watch for rear subframe corrosion.

Can't help feeling that for that sort of money she should look at top priced good D2s. More reliable and less likely to throw a crank.

Front to rear brake pipes are an arse job on the d3/4/rrr. Centre bearing means new propshaft on these, about 300 for the prop. You will find garages will avoid the d3/4/rr just as they do the series/defenders as they always go balls up and cost...

It's not pennies if you are paying labour or having to buy the stuff to do it yourself.

I've found on two Discos that lazy central locking can be lack of use. My current one sits in a dry garage for 10 months each year, once it's been in use for a couple of days central locking works much better. Admittedly I don't trust it completely.

Front of the 3 rear diff bushes has failed and prop kicks in air and touches floor when accelerating.

Thanks will have a look at it, checked the boot floor the other day, some surface rust but solid all round thankfully. Definitely need to do all the seals as the carpet is wet. My friend and I are discussing turning his garage full of stuff...

As above about the old coolant, animals love to drink it but it's poisonous to them, and probably us so don't drink it.

Just pull the bottom rad hose and let it spill, but keep in mind that the coolant isn't allowed to get on the ground or into drains, as it's toxic. No need to flush if it comes out clean, and no need to start the engine either. Just refill...

Another thing to take in is the fact that it will most likely need all the fluids changed, Diff, PTU, Gearbox manual or ( Auto definitely) Haldex with new filter, same with the power steering i doubt they will have been done unless the owner as...

The lower priced one is a TD4 (160hp) with 80k on the clock. The higher priced one is an SD4 (190hp) with 43k on the clock. They are bound to be different prices. My TD4 has ample poke for me.
  • Bruce2020
Might I suggest that after you establish that your D1 drives reasonably well you lift the carpets back front and rear to check how good (or bad) the floors and bulkhead are. Also peel back the rear boot mat to inspect as rear floor and inner...

Hi there If memory serves the SD4 is 190 bhp, I’ve got the TD4 160 and it’s great. Regarding towing, diesel’s are built for it. I’m confident you won’t see any issues with towing. You’re already close to the towing capacity anyway too. It’s...

Regarding your rear windows the solder joint can split on the PCB I know this as I have same issue. It’s a repair that was covered in LRO a few years ago. You may have to learn to solder too mate.
  • Bruce2020
If you can weld and fabricate to a decent standard and have covered workshop facilities and your labour time is free then it's all doable. Inner wings, sills and floorpan and chassis repair panels plus materials will run to over £1000 I'd guess...
  • Bruce2020
Good advice, not many garages want to work on older vehicles as well, they know the moment they start cutting and chasing the rust to find something to weld too, the cost is going to increase. Then you end up with a customer who’s not happy and a...
  • Bruce2020
If you are paying then most likely the welding will cost you more than the vehicle is worth. ABS should be blindingly obvious if you have it, follow the pipes from master cylinder and see if they go into a square lump of Ali with a load of other...

I have a D1 and am teaching myself to weld as it wouldn’t be worth doing it if I paid someone else. When I first started this journey I had a shed , now I have a workshop….. you get the idea. Regarding your starting issue, check the fuel sender...

If its been run that day, but allowed to cool, does it then start in just the same way, or better? If "better" i would suggest it could be somthing as simple as injector leak offs. If they get holes in them you get air come in when its not...
  • Bruce2020
Morning Billy, when you say any welder do you mean anyone who can weld or the actual machine? Personal preference is a gas mig, and f you mean any welder as in person, it will deffo have to be someone who knows how to fabricate, I bought mine and...

The diff is a weak point on these vehicles, with issues often starting at 60 to 80 k miles. There are no fluid changes specified before 10 years or 150k, which is way too long.
