    i would be tempted to leave alone as it is, hide the switch away and you now have anti theft device, and with the theft of landys on the up every thing you do no matter how small to disable the starter to stop the feckers from starting it, they are not going to hang about looking for the switch.

    fuel line sizes

    if i remember old fuel lines are 1/4 as you say and new sizes are 11mm, only thing to make sure of is the younger generation who work in the spare parts dept have never dealt with 1/4 inch imperial and they might just give you metric, it does happen,

    copper slip can stand very high temp more than any engine can throw out, providing the head as been removed getting broken studs out can be a bummer of a job but can be defeated with care,if the studs are broken flush with the head place a punch on the stud and give it a sharp hit with a hammer...

    i use a product called copper slip you can buy it in tins and small tubes, and this product is made for stopping bolts seizing in situ very much like grease but a lot better, i use it all the time.

    at a guess on your description of fault i would be looking at head gasket, any decent garage would test it by using a radiator presure tester,

    if the water pump is frozen and the belt is a little slack or worn it would spin on the crank, also it must be slack as it drives the alternater aswell. but you say the bottom pully doesnt turn unless you mean power steering, 1 for crank, 1 for water pump, 1 for alternator, so how many pulleys...
