I know you have painted the outside of the chassis but I would still cover the external with a chassis wax as well. I like dinitrol personally as it actually "dries" rather than remaining wet like waxoil.
I've reluctantly started to give Leylandi series 3, some protection today. Last weekend I used a wire brush on a drill and white spirit to remove old waxoyl then jetwashed.
I used Jenolite rust converter and 2 coats of Buzzweld chassis in one...
Thank you for adding to the conversation, it's great to know I'm not alone. One of the first things we did before trying to start it when we rolled it out of storage was to drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel.
In addition, "Uncle...
My series 3 was running badly so I replaced the Zenith Chinese copy with a new Weber kit. What I now believe is the rusty fuel kept blocking up the carb jets. I would advise anyone recommissioning a series to save themselves the frustration to...
Welcome to the forum.
I would suggest a Webber is the most affordable option.
Rebuilt carbs are pretty expensive last time I looked.
Don't be tempted by the Chinese Zenith, we had one and it was total rubbish. We then got a good 2nd hand Zenith...
The inline filter did very little when my tank was rotten, the jets were still getting clogged. If it does need a new tank it's easy to fit just a 4 bolts and 2 hose clips to undo.
yeah, I'm not sure where it all came from though because it has quite a good inline fuel filter fitted? previous owner might of put that on after he realised crud was getting into the carb though.
i've figured out the bulk of the problem. took the carb apart today and discovered that the little fuel strainer just after the fuel inlet was completely blocked. as well as a lot of varnished old fuel and rust in the float. i've cleaned it out...
Thank you, really useful. I’ve not looked inside my fuel tank for a while and not serviced the carb for over 5 years, filters all look fine ‘but’ I’ll take the hit and get a new OEM one from Paddocks.
The know the lift pump fitted is a copy with...
There's so many variables.
Service it top to bottom. Set the tappets.. replace the plugs, replace the leads if they look ancient. The points might be old and burnt but you're replacing with electronic.., check the air cleaner, replace the oil if...

I got a chance to fit the new oem fuel pump from Paddock Spares today and it has helped with starting. The clear carb fuel filter fills a lot quicker now. Last year a rusty fuel tank caused me a lot of carb issues so I slowly replaced...
My 78' with a new weber does the same, I have a new fuel pump to try but I doubt it will help. It starts better with the choke on these days. I have fuel filter just before the carb it fills slowly when starting it up.
Hi knowledgable folk, just trying to find out / gather ideas why my Series 3 2.25 fuel drains back so quick from the carb (Weber). Starts great in the morning from cold and if you leave it for 10-15 minutes when hot it'll start straight away...
