Yes, I had that seal problem too, and replaced one with an O-ring; now it doesn't ooze, but is tough to turn... at least I know it won't let water in!

FWHs save on propshaft wear, and consequent u-joint and transmission/diff pinion bearings and seals, even if the fuel savings aren't noticeable...

Pole and rope and two people. You can take off the roof and suspend it across there and manhandle it out and down....

Sounds like the two hemispheres are running at similar temps - we've got nice cool nights but the days are already up to 30 deg C - it's s'posed to be winter here.

So... I want to do the big ends on a S3 petrol - assume this'll be easier than doing the whole lot... Did anyone ever answer Ciderman's question about the bell housing? I don't want to take out the gearbox if I don't have to....

Hello everyone. Just joined the forum. I've been driving a petrol series III for the last 40 years (my first car!)(although made in 1976); also have a diesel series III which is the same age, but someone else had it until the early 2000s.
I try to do as much of the maintenance and repair work...
