Have you tried talc powder at the joints,Also while you are at it put loads in the air vent passengers side only,vehicle may need a bit of a clean after though.

How did you get on i have the same problem seeing the speedo(long or short sighted?)in the end i used a free speedo app on the i phone,its called hudwayglass i use the bright green display,its also reversible so can reflect off the windscreen for a hud up display,hope this helps.
