Loud whine low power - sudden

Last sound i had like this one was a transmission fault (bmw e30, getrag box). Opened up said gearbox and found a split roller bearing, replaced it and luckily it was fine thereafter. Was a unique sound and easy to notice from the tunnel. very much like this noise. whirring with like a liquid...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Yea, these early d2's don't hold any real value like other old landy's. Money is tight, it needs more work than is mentioned here, wants a quarter chassis & sills amongst other crap jobs i would only do if it had a decent motor. Full service due, hubs want attention. It's not like it's my old...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Autobox seemed correct level wise but dark. Nothing unusual really. 115k miles so its probably been done at some point with the filter service. Transfer box over filled and Pretty dark. Drained some off for now but does want swapping if it gets back on the road.

Loud whine low power - sudden

Hi Im just mid way checking things over again. Found the alternator is giving off a bit more noise than it should, though its only subtle at idle there is a bit of a whine from the area the oil feed pipes go in. The stethoscope picks up a slight grind sound, but its hard to pick up on with the...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Yea >< Either cheap crap, or i suspect the crank pulley caused it. When the crank pulley fails it gets rotational play and causes a chatter/slap, could cause problems with the alternator internals is my best guess. Been trying for months to get someone to fit it as it requires a custom tool to...

Loud whine low power - sudden

no ace, ps & ac are present. everything on the belt seemed fine turned over by hand. We have gone through 2 alternators in the past year, so it could have an issue thats not showing when turned by hand. First unit was original, second was cheap crap from ebay, third was i think a bosch item...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Righto, ill start looking for used items hopefully something decent shows up nearby. Cheers for the advice! I wont rush to it though, on the off chance someone chips in with an opposing idea. Main reason is the sound isn't what ive heard on other turbo failures, its more whine and less...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Just checked the turbo rotor and its nice and smooth. The wastegate is a little stiff, freed up easily but isnt what i would call a free action. its a little jerky. Would that be inline with this level of problem? edit: i recall i bypassed the wastegate control after it started hopping around...

Loud whine low power - sudden

Ohh i hope it is. That's fixable. Seemed in good order when last check, i will take another look. Would show as a stiff or probably seized rotor correct? Thank you :)

Loud whine low power - sudden

Hi all, sorry to be a bother again. Had a bit of a disaster with the disco 2. Early td5 engine, auto box. Set off the other day and it was lacking power, had previously been driving spot on. A very loud whine presented above around 30mph. Sounds to be coming from drivers side front and gets...

Discovery 2 - central locking issue

MOT station has no diagnostic machine for our car, so ill have to book diagnostics elsewhere. Anyone near barrow (cumbria) with a nanocom/hawkeye willing to take a look? Got a few things id like changing in the settings too (eka/immobilser/deadlocks), willing to pay of course.

Discovery 2 - central locking issue

It should be in for a retest monday. Ill ask them to run the test you mention. Are there any other specific checks i should ask them to run if the receiver happens to be working? (not sure what the rf test will show and my guess is they wont be motivated) - cheers

Discovery 2 - central locking issue

Hi all, having a problem with the locking on a disco 2 (98-03 body type) Worked fine when i bought the car a while back The remote/fob started to be intermittent, working better at close range, over time i needed to be next to the car. i assumed it was the fob battery. After being sat still a...

Gallery seals / bolt part numbers (front and real calipers, defender 90)

OFC = of course :) I don't doubt that they are good to re-use, i could have worded that better. Just meant for the price, if i can get em sorted, then great. :)

Gallery seals / bolt part numbers (front and real calipers, defender 90)

Given the age of the vehicle i would rather change them while there (the seals at least), since it is brakes and all. OFC if i have no other choice then so be it. According to 'shop4autoparts' lockheed only used 3 types of gallery seal in land rovers, if that's true and i might just order a...
