    RUSTOLEUM

I've just put a new rear cross member on mine and decided to give the chassis some love. I've stripped it all back using a wire brush on a grinder, primed and painted with POR-15 then over coated with a couple of layers of underseal. The inside of the chassis i sprayed with 5 litres of waxoil...

Transverse rear seats in a SWB Series

Rear facing seats would be safer but getting in and out would mean climbing over the bench seat. I thought about using the truck cab upper seat belt mounts and the lowers could be attached to a large plate under the floor. My other thought was to fit the roll bar hoop that I have at the veary...

Transverse rear seats in a SWB Series

Hi! I've got a Series 2 that I've made into a crew cab of sorts using a defender smooth roof, a series truck cab back panel and Defender side panels cut to fit. From time to time I need to take my children out in it and I'd much rather they were forward facing. Looking at the measurements I...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

Another morning and another test - I'm pretty sure it's a failing starter motor. I did turn the motor over with a bar on the crank and it didn't seem overly tight, starter motor struggled for a few turns then after a breather it spun over much quicker and started. Tried turning the engine...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

With the brand new 019 battery in it is exactly the same. Cranks slowly for the first couple of revolutions, you release the key then have another go and it spins quickly and fires. Guess I'm going to have to buy another starter and send this one back for a warranty claim - what do you think the...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

So this morning with the freshly charged battery it turned over slowly for the first revolution, I lett off the key then turned it again and it spun over quickly and fired. I spoke to the factors I got the starter from and they really don't seem interested, telling me I'll have to buy another...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

If it is still slow cranking tomorrow I think it's time to try another starter.....perhaps someone in Cornwall would be kind enough to lend me one that they know is good :)

P38 battery not large enough?? It's a 664, puts out 800CCA and has a capacity of 115AH. How big a battery do you think it needs???

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

The story continues.. This morning with a fresh battery (Battery from a P38 diesel, less than 3 months old, charged over night and fitted in properly - not using jump leads) it.......spun over and started BUT not quickly like I'd expect, it still struggled over slowly once or twice then fired...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

It's got a Series III dash and in the middle of the dash there's a Smiths volt meter, Smiths Ammeter (+-60amp) and an Alpha boost gauge (totally pointless but I needed something after the vacuum gauge came out with the 2 1/4 petrol). I think tomorow after I try it with fresh charged BIG...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

I drive 11 miles each way to work when I take my Landy, when it's left for the days inbetween it has a battery isolator that I switch off (as much as an anti theft device as to protect the battery). Even after a couple of days on the new battery it started doing it (slow cranking), as I said...

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

Replacement is a valeo (Or boxed as valeo). Can't see it's the battery when the last one had been fine for 10+ years and that was an old 096 that I took off of an old Pug 406 diesel and it worked fine. Just to think outside the box - how about if it's a failing ammeter, upsetting the voltage...

@ Johnlad - I changed the starter motor because of this fault, I'm wondering if I have a duff replacement :-/

Hi Trax, It's in ready for a winch but not got the winch fitted yet. Handy to have a spare freshly charged battery though :-)

200TDi starting problem - not battery or starter.

Bosch recommend an 027 battery for the defender with a 200/300tdi and that puts out 610cca, both of my batteries put out more than that (680 Halfords and 660 Bosch) and it shouldn't need more than 600cca to turn over a 2.5 diesel. But, Tomorrow morning I'll put the two batteries in Parallel...
