    Dramatic engine failure

Looking on the bright side... I was going to shell out for some new tyres for it later this week. That's one job off my list!

    Dramatic engine failure

Death by turbo - sums it up nicely. I never thought about trying to stall it. I think I got confused and panicky when I had the key in my had and the engine was still revving the knackers off itself. One of those WTF! moments for sure. Shame really as the bodywork and the rest is ok. I...

    Dramatic engine failure

Just had the tractor tow me back home. 500 yards from home I lost power but the revs went full on. I quickly stopped and turned the engine off and removed the key - to no effect. Chucking smoke out the back and on full revs - the road became lost in a cloud. All I could think off was to...

    Hello

Thanks, yes not going anywhere. I'm looking forward to tinkering with my Landy. Just hoping I don't find too hard work to do, or I'll be upgrading for a newer version, when I sell my camper van!

    Clutch burning

You are probably right with the worn bearings. I'll give the new oil a go. It went away with new oil. The thread I looked at on another forum, had the fault down to faulty wiring in the end, but mines a bit noisy when first accelerating so bearings is looking likely. Runs like a dream...

    Clutch burning

Ive re I've read on here and elsewhere about oil light flickering on when the engine is warmed up and and stood on tick over out of gear with clutch down. This is what mine does. if you just lightly increase the revs it goes out. Not sure of a fix to it, other than try a new sensor, but it...

    Hello

Just a quick intro, after some nice help on my first posts. I bought my first Freelander last year - TD4 Kalahari. 53 plate so expected a few issues. All the usual have cropped up. Rear tailgate handle came off, Rear window opening. Oil pressure sensor, misfire. Gladly a good service...

    Clutch burning

Yes it was a tight spot to get into so maybe just a bit of abuse. Glad to know the clutch might not have fared badly as a result. It will get a good look on the service, so hopefully will be good for the occasional bit of towing.. but nothing too strenuous. Next stop is a full valet. Some tlc...

    Clutch burning

Oh nowt heavy just a couple of bulky hen huts, so it wasn't taking any weight other than the trailer really, and the run was just down the M6 from junction to junction. It just struggled in reverse. Nice stink in the car for the rest of the day. After that it coughed and spluttered - as you...

    Clutch burning

It is a TD4 2L diesel, and not sure of the weight of the trailer but it was a twin axle car transporter.

    Clutch burning

My Freelander 1 has been out with a large trailer. When trying to reverse into a tight area up a small rise, the clutch eventually started smoking, and it wasn't due to me slipping the clutch. I'm just wondering whether this would be down to a worn clutch just not being able to handle a heavy...
