Ahh, now thats worth knowing. Ran the 300tdi on that for a while (loved the smell!!). You've swayed me back to the Terrano.

Alternative to Disco while saving for Disco 3

Yes that's my thinking, whereas Landy parts are cheap but I just need something reasonably realible for a couple of years. Sods law whatever I do will be wrong!!

Alternative to Disco while saving for Disco 3

Yes cheap parts, expensive labour though. I've had Disco's for nearly twenty years and always had the time to repair them myself. Now I don't have the time and paying for repairs, and the time I'm without the car, is just not practical. I'd love a another Disco but they aren't practical for...

Actually the Volvo I'm also considering. Don't want a scooby. The only thing preventing me is I'm used to Landies and like a proper 4x4. If I get a Volvo I think I wouldn't be happy as it's a big compromise!

Alternative to Disco while saving for Disco 3

Yes because it's towing through muddy fields all year round. I've also got a two litre Mondeo and it doesn't even consider towing the box empty on mud, let alone fully loaded! We also live in the sticks and for our job we need four wheel drive to get to clients in snow and floods.

Thanks guys, hadn't considered Ford Explorer so will take a look. Frontera I just don't fancy, maybe to similar to a Freelander!!! Will also look at Land cruisers although I fear they might be out of my price range for something half way ok (I'm happy with just ok for my budget). Jeeps, quite...

    Green lane GPS

I'd second the Ordinance Survey app. Only costs £1.99 for each map and you don't require a internet connection to use them so they work anywhere. Use on a tablet and you a decent sized GPS map.

Alternative to Disco while saving for Disco 3

Maybe a odd question for a Landy forum but I've just got rid of my series 1 Discovery, long story short to much needed doing to and I haven't the time to do it myself. So, I'm saving for a Disco 3 but this will take at least 18 months to 2 years. In the meantime I need a 4wd capable of towing a...

300 tdi water pump/tensioner repeated failure.

What brand of beans are they?

300 tdi water pump/tensioner repeated failure.

Agree, they did/do run fine for about 9,000 miles. Guess it's just rubbish parts and I've been stitched up. Wish I had the time and know how to do it myself with quality parts!! Anyone want to buy it!!!!

300 tdi water pump/tensioner repeated failure.

The tensioner goes all wobbly and rattles and throws the belt off. I don't know if the the water pump fails or the the tensioner fails first. When it starts it fails within less than a thousand miles. The repairs were done by two different garages, one a so called Land Rover specialist. Yes, my...

300 tdi water pump/tensioner repeated failure.

Hi, I have Disco 300Tdi Safari, bloody thing keeps (about 1 year/10,000 miles) failing on water pump and related tensioner (pulley), tensioner becomes lose, noisy and ends up throwing off the belt. This is the third time in two years so have to presume the failure is a symptom rather than cause...
