FIXED IT! It was so simple it should have been obvious. The nut holding the motor shaft to the wiper linkages had become slightly loose and had mis-aligned the arms. simply loosened the nut, moved it back into the right position, then tightened again
That was a pointless waste of £50 on a new motor

Ive been told that the park switch is inside the motor housing on our Freelander. Im hoping the ECU isnt the problem
