    Oils for a 1997 110 300tdi CSW

The MTF94 is a gear oil that is specific oil for the r380 gearbox. ATF will do the job but because it is ATF it has different properties and is not a patch on the MTF94.

    Land rover wheels

The only thing you will need to do is to adjust the stop lock on the steering, because otherwise when one wheel turns inwards it will rub on the inside.

    Clunk at Back

Yeah as long as you have got the equipment to do it and you can buy all the parts from ashcroft transmissions.

    Clunk at Back

I had exactly the same problem, what happens is the mainshaft of the gearbox wears on the input gear off the transfer box. You then get a lag in power transfer. Hence the 'clunk'. Unfortunately it is a gearbox out job to replace the mainshaft. And then a transfer box out job to replace the input...

    Clunk at Back

If its not the A-frame ball joint it will be the input gear and mainshaft that have worn and will need to be replaced. If it is a loud clunk when taking up drive and when changing gear, that sounds like the symptoms.

    Gearbox a gonner?

Well for the mainshaft and the syncro rebuild it was £300, but i also had various other little bits and pieces, bearings etc. That was also including the cost of the new cross drilled input gear from the transfer box.

    Gearbox a gonner?

Well all that i had done to mine was a replacement mainshaft and input gear from the transfer box and job done. However while i had the gearbox out i chose to replace the syncro's simply because the box had done over 100k miles and it only seemed right to spend the extra little bit to do this.

    Gearbox a gonner?

Hi there, i had the same problem with my landy. The problem was the mainshaft coming off the gearbox which goes into the transfer box. The splines wear on that mainshaft which causes slack. The slack comes from the mainshaft splines wearing when in comes into contact with the input gear in the...
