Thanks both, I took the header liner down yesterday, and removed the RF receiver. Its earth contact is grimy so I'm going to clean it up with wire wool first to see if that does any good. If not, I'll buy a new RF receiver.

You can't "bypass" the immobiliser all you can do is to disable it with nanocom or hawkeye once the vehicle is remobilised, while it's immobilised you can't do anything You have to rule out the receiver first cos if that's the problem a second...

As what you are asking is basically "How can I nick a Disco once I've got the door open?" you won't find it I doubt. But someone may be willing to PM you with the info.

An update, some background and some further questions please: I've done the easy stuff: the key solder all looks good. I've checked the internal fuse box for corrosion = none. I've also monitored the battery: After running for half an hour the...

Thanks once again, That is good to know. During the problems with my car, the immobiliser alarm has not sounded. Shouldn't it have done so as I opened the door manually and tried to start the car?

A second key is useless while the vehicle is immobilised cos the BCU is locked for programming, you have to remobilise it first then a good used key can be programmed with nanocom by a friendly member close to you or you can hire one HERE ...or...

Thanks All, That is brilliant. It has given me something to have a go at. It is particularly good to know that as the fob doesn't work it immediately becomes immobilised when opened by the key. I've only ever had one key, so thought it would be...

Sounds like a dry joint in the fob, to the little gismo that unlocks the immobiliser. @sierrafery ferry will know I expect.

I would double check that battery and possibly the alternator. As you say after it has a chance to recover it has enough to go again.

As long as the fob doesnt work it becomes immobilised once opened with the key, replace the RF receiver cos it's the most common cause for such intermittent symptom especially if you have two fobs and it behaves the same with both

No, different places. I drove it into town twice and parked in different places. Each time when I switched off the engine the locking wouldn't operate and the engine wouldn't start. Approx. two hours of resting, then it works. When I drove back...

Can someone please offer suggestions as to what might be the cause of a strange fault that has developed on my D2 TD5? This came about when I drove it, stopped, turned off the engine and locked the doors. When I came back to the car the...
