I used the 3D printer at work to print the fixings for my 3 door parcel shelf, it worked a treat. Also fitted wind deflectors, I must say it looks good👍
100% The shape of the chisel I ended up having to use a pry bar make the gap between the UJ and bolt tint slam the thing in that smack it as hard as possible into the bolt to slightly move it, bit by bit, honestly might just buy another propshaft...
Well done for getting them apart.
I think that must be the most linked to video by a long way in the Freelander section of LZ.
Separating the props really is a case of absolute maximum aggression with a chisel and heavy hammer - and hope the...
Last time I worked on a prop shaft I had to use a sledge hammer on the chisel as the gentle tapping shown in the video had zero effect. I needed a new bolt too but the most important thing is the shape of the chisel.
Finally got around to those whirring VCU Bearings.... Oh Boy I hope I never have to do that again...
The Middle to rear shaft popped off without issue... The Front to Mid? What a story.
I started off by just me and a friend pulling. No Luck, so...
Made up a couple.of map pocket presses to make sure the headlining sticks in the corners.
A bit of profiled skirting and 36mm waste pipe !!!
Bolt goes through the fixing hole in the roof to pull them in firmly.
Thought I should give an update! Success!
On a very rainy cold weekend in October 2023, myself and old man took to the underneath of my Freelander....
Surprisingly, nothing really went too wrong? Seized ball joint on the lower wish bone... cut...
A time saving update.
Doing the headliner in the Sport now. Tried taking all one side trim out then folding back seat and winding front seat back on the same side. Headliner drops and un hooks from side with trim still fitted.
Means you only...
Of course! Will post some pics of pulling some Defenders out of the sand… 😂
Cheers guys, thanks for all the recommendations. Took all your advice to heart.
For the spare tyre, I work at UPS and have one ready to ship from the Netherlands to...
Having driven one with a broken belt, it is a safety item as the steering goes too stiff for some to steer.
As above, don't think it is an MOT item in UK but probably should be.
Over here they would fail it for a bad tyre but I've never heard of them failing a car because of a belt. I don't think it's even on their list of things to look at.
I cleaned it up lovely. It was lookin fabulous.
And the bastids failed it!
How dare they!
I spent 30 minutes getting it looking that good.
They said it needs a tyre and a power steering belt.
But it was spotlessly clean. I'm dumb founded. :D
Take the top off the steering column (three screws from below) then take out the 6 screws as shown and when it's out you'll see how to take off the painted bits. I sprayed mine satin black as they were a bit scratched and the result was great.
I think GG is referring to a 2nd spare tyre which given the miles you'll be doing makes sense.
As the others have said looking awesome! :D
Have a great trip.
Just some progress as we are wrapping up our preparations. Larry is almost good to go, a few little service things to do still (see my other topic.. ;-))
Left out the roof rack in the end due to the weight in combination with the rooftop tent...
F1 Freelanders are very well proportioned beside stupid looking fat modern SUV's.
Every time I park mine in a carpark I glance back with a little pride while walking away.
yup
It will work and I cant be @rsed to invest more time and effort in the subject
Everything is more stress down here, in the UK you just find it and order it, which I do with most things on my trips home to mum's, but this type of thing isnt...
Yes mate, paddles might be a project when I run out of other things to do. With my levels of procrastination ever increasing I'm not sure when that will happen. 🤣
I was thinking more that the paddles would be pretty easy thing to copy for your use.
Nice simple analogue circuit there Ali. The LM393 is a nice robust IC too, just what is needed in the hostile environment of a car.
If they didn't, it would be a good idea to - even if none spilled.
If they do it, warn them to release the fill bolt first as it is really soft and often causes problems if not taken off very carefully.
I wouldn't fuss too much about the type of bolts or corrosion.
Unless your a sucker kinda guy you'll be removing at least once per year for servicing anyway.
Because this is what I could get :)
(I'm going to spray 'blobs' of it on the parts of the Ally where the SS bolts go through too (Galvanic table) or the SS might eat through the ally) Actually, I might not use SS bolts at all.
Nice find mate, they look like fun. My MG gives around 100kW on full regen and maybe even more with the brake but I'm trying to be sensible and start out with a bit less with this setup.
However as I have the attention span of a nat, I've flip...
It sounds like transmission to me - changes with road speed and not present if not moving. It doesn’t sound like the ‘grumble’ of a wheel bearing but I don’t really know. One bearing was totally shot, maybe the other is going?
