Gears are a bit clunky but feels normal, i will also check for some more simple resolutions but i have definitively traced the noise to the starter/flywheel housing.

Petrol, i have already had it out a few times to clean and grease the bendix. it hasn't seemed to make any difference unfortunately.

My starter motor continues to turn even after the engine has turned over. i don't think it's causing any damage to the flywheel but the noise is just really irritating! any ideas why this is happening, wired up incorrectly maybe? help would be appreciated as i can't hear myself think over the...

drained the whole system and put some new fuel in and it's working a little better now but still a bit temperamental. Will keep running it every now and then to throw some oil about inside. thanks for the help!
