Disco 2 Another TD5 Centrifugal housing issue

Thanks for the quick reply Reddiscotd5! Was your engine the later TD5 if you mind me asking? And by the sounds I was correct in thinking you have to drill all the way through, is there enough room to do it in place? Thanks

Disco 2 Another TD5 Centrifugal housing issue

Hi guys, I've got a 2004 (15P) TD5, brought it a week ago and thought I'd do the oil filters and yup you guessed it, the threads came out the housing, looks like the previous owner may have had an issue too but just managed to nip them up. Car's now stuck at work and only have tomorrow to fix it...

Disco 2 Replacement panels - best place to buy?

Yeah none of them are exactly expensive! Just wanted to go for the best possible haha. Thanks guys, do you bother with mud flaps themselfs? Mine are long gone, but dont know if I should bother or not, do they do much? do they rip off constantly? Only just got my disco so trying to get things...

Disco 2 Replacement panels - best place to buy?

Hi guys, done some googling but can't really find an answer. Just purchased myself my first landrover, a 2004 discovery. Needs a rear sill and mud flap brackets, there's plenty of places to buy online but didn't know if some are better than others or not, or do they all come from the same place...

Disco 2 Viewed my first disco, after advice!

No was done by the previous owner just before part exchanging it with the dealer. Gearbox doesn't crunch just stiff, a friend suggested it may be due to tractor driving (1st to 3rd all the time). He's a mechanic and experienced it before, I don't have many dealings with 4x4's at my work place.

Disco 2 Viewed my first disco, after advice!

Car had a plate change when brand new, and reverted back in 2012. Then belonged to a ground maintenance company. Think the reg originated from Yorkshire ish area I seem to remember reading. I'm not a fan of dealers either, as they don't know anything about the car, it's history, any problems...

Disco 2 Viewed my first disco, after advice!

Hi mark, thanks for the reply! The cars from a dealer, so he doesn't know of any problems etc, and I knew more about it than he did. Gearbox job wouldn't be that much, with no labour (as I mentioned above, I'm a mechanic myself) same with the MOT really, I've already had a look at that aspect...

Disco 2 Viewed my first disco, after advice!

Hmm. I am a mechanic by trade (ford tech) but have never got involved with 4x4's.. Owned a fiesta for 5 years and gone everywhere in it and only had to replace wheel bearings.. So swapping to a landrover is making me paranoid! Spoke to another friend who told me a few more places to check for...

But I know how problematic landrovers are and appreciate I'm unlikely to find one that's perfect and doesn't have a single problem, common or not.. But based on what you chaps are saying, it's one to stay clear of?

Thanks for the replies guys. I suspect the interior light problem is a fuse, as it also runs the radio and interior clock, neither of which work. The cars had some accessories wired in at some point, as there's a couple of holes in the dash where either a switch or light used to be so suspect...

Thanks for the reply, I know people who can weld, and see repair sections are cheap enough but I didn't know if they can hide more behind the outer sill m, not entirely sure whys it rotten here, maybe a blocked sill drain?

£4500, which is low compared to others of a similar age and more mileage! Price im not too worried about, more just the fact it may be a rot box or a problematic turd!
