I have tried all the usual suspects (EBay, Craddocks, paddocks, etc) but they all sell the male part of the switch but im looking for the female part of the plug. As its part of the wiring loom I guess it rarely needs replacing.

I follow what you had done "johnlad" and it sounds like a good trick, I will try figure out the bit size tomorrow try on a sample piece first.
Failing that i guess track down adapters on Monday or worst case new pipes.
