Thanks for the reply, It was the electrical dipstick I'm hoping is working right, Showing half full and saying ok , does not fill me with confidence not showing top up with x number of ltrs, how low does it have to be before it says top up?

lift pump fitted new pump and it's fine , mine would run for a while then only tick over not rev up,worth a try for around £20. Steve

I have this small problem where the alternator light comes on in a morning for about a mile then goes out, the charge meter then goes up to 14 and is fine the rest of the day usually, I know this maybe oil in the alternator getting on brushes (300tdi), but the problem I require info on is...

Whoops!!!! got me boxes mixed up and thought the gear box had gear oil in it, Sorted now put new atf in it. Thanks for replys Steve

Just checked gearbox oil and it looks reddish to me, question is can it drain from transfer box into main gearbox or has someone put the wrong oil in the gearbox? Cheers Steve
